Speaking at a city-wide meat distribution programme sponsored by Oscars Salamis, Mayor Thebolla said the outreach business, individuals and NGOs demonstrated Ubuntu and gave hope to all South Africans.
Oscars Salamis donated 50 000 Russian sausages half of which were given to the homeless shelter in Mayors Walk, Sobantu and Jika Joe residents on Thursday morning.
John Troisi the Managing Director of Oscars Real Salamis CC said, “We hope this gesture will bring some small relief to those in need over this difficult period and we would like to encourage other suppliers of food to do the same in their own communities under the banner #strongertogether!”
Established over 50 years ago Oscar’s is a household brand in KZN.
Troisi said,”Oscars Salamis (The Troisi Family) has been supported continuously over all these years by the local community.
The shareholders want to give something in return to the same community in this difficult time.
The Covid-19 virus will have a devastating negative impact on our fellow South Africans – especially the poorest of the poor.
The potential that there will be a very negative impact on our economy needs no elaborating. ”
Troisi also thanked the businesses who donated products to them to enable the community effort.
They are Boston Abattoir, Deli Spices, Vendium, and Foodpak.
Mayor Mzi Thebolla thanked the company for their generous donation and support in feeding the less fortunate in the city.
